Who: Reno and Makishima
What: Reno wanders modern Earth and takes a fool chance.
When: Modern times, in the last decade.
Where: England
Warnings: Possible smut, but everyone is of age and consenting.
A fateful night under the mistletoe just a few days after Reno stumbled into the boring-ass world called "Earth" and he ended up with a phone number and a lingering taste in his mouth. He waited a long time to call. Not months, but a couple of weeks, once he learned about the local holidays and realized they were meant for family and close friends, not date with strangers you snogged in bars. Well, depending on your upbringing, anyways, but he figured Makishima for a more quality figure than himself.
So it was that the day after Christmas, Makishima's phone rang and it wasn't someone from Japan or any of his relatives. It was the lazy drawl and accent of the guy from the bar.
"It's uh...it's Reno. Remember? From the party?" he offered up as gently as possible in case Maki didn't have the privacy to talk. Usually Reno didn't think about much, saying whatever he felt like when he felt like it, but the weeks of wandering around (which was actually more than a month for him, being as he went portal jumping in the meanwhile) gave him time to think about how not to screw everything up in the first hour. It was pretty sweet having time to make plans and rev himself up. Plus it meant time to beat the crap out of some punks to rip them off, shuck their wallets and get enough local scratch to take a guy out for a night on the town and not look like a cheap-ass.
Good times.
"Look uh, I know it's been a while but I thought you'd like time with the family and all. But apparently the holiday was done yesterday and I didn't want you to forget me" the Turk laughed, trying not to sound desperate. Fucking hard to do when you were playing out a seen from goddamn Lady and the Tramp. Good thing he'd never seen the movie. Loveless was bad enough.
"That dinner? Uhh...you hungry?"

Focusing on what Reno was actually saying wasn't easy, but he forced himself to. That Reno was angry seemed obvious but what he was angry about wasn't so clear. Was he angry that Makishima had followed him and fallen into this mess? Was he angry that he now had to take care of Makishima? It was really too much. What did manage to stick with Makishima was that for all intents and purposes Reno was an alien. Perhaps a very humanoid looking one with all the same body parts as Makishima had, but an alien all the same. He supposed that explained the strange glow to Reno's eyes. Makishima had always wondered at it and the fact that Reno insisted the lights stay on while they had sex. Makishima assumed it was some kind of pride thing, but perhaps it was more that that glow would only be brought out if it were fully dark. It made sense in a way.
It was a comfort to know that time might not be directly affected by Makishima's sudden departure. He thought now of the days or weeks that sometimes went by with Reno gone. Just how long were those gaps for Reno? He usually returned extremely happy to see Makishima as if it had been ages since he'd seen Makishima. Maki had always assumed that was some clingy nature of Reno's, Toudou could be like that, but maybe it was that actual months had passed. Perhaps Reno was happy to see him because he genuinely didn't know just how long it would be before he could see him again. That made Makishima feel guilty and suddenly those little, petty annoyances didn't mean so much to him. God he really had made a mistake.
"Reno," Makishima said quietly, reaching out to take his hand in his. He wanted to apologize, needed to.

"Elfadunk," the Turk warned, craning his head around the boulder for a moment before whipping back behind the cover and cursing under his breath.
"...There's some Levrikon, too. The Elfadunk isn't a big deal but the Levrikon can get pretty nasty. Worst the Elfadunk has is that damn Shower...they'll poison you. I've seen people kill themselves under the influence," the man reported warningly, blue-green eyes flicking over to Makishima's face for a moment.
He had thought to look away again, but got caught up, staring silently. There was a lot of hurt in his angry, fearful gaze, but a lot more worry for the younger man. No matter how stupid he felt over getting tangled up like he had, it didn't change that he'd had some of his happiest times with Maki. No amount of hurt would change that, and the complicated feelings were plain n his face as he forced himself to look away.
"Stay here," Reno ordered, pointing to the ground where they stood before reaching into his coat and pilling out a short sap. A flick of the wrist extended the metal rod into a long baton, the surface scuffed and stained. There wasa small red emblem on the handle, though Maki didn't have time to investigate as Reno pushed him back again before stalking out of cover and sneering in the direction of whatever was behind the boulder.
"Let's dance, you ugly little shits," the redhead taunted, the spooked creatures squawking and bellowing. There was a large, blue-skinned elephantine beast with horns as well as tusks and something like a very massive, aggressive-looking combination of vulture and stork. Reno ran at the animals fearlessly, clotheslining one of the bird things before bellowing a satisfied whoop and laying into the pachyderm with the baton. All of the animals converged upon him, but he hardly seemed to care; it was his element, after all.

He had no idea what an "elfadunk" was but he was about to find out. Makishima's already pale face had gone even paler at Reno's caution. He was scared, terrified in fact, but seeing that concern mingled with so much hurt and anger in Reno's gaze sobered him. He'd gotten himself into a mess, but Reno was going to be here to protect him. He could have been with him back home too, but Makishima really had made a terrible mistake. Dammit, he was such an idiot!
He mentally cursed himself, distracted until he heard Reno taunt the creatures and despite Reno's warning Makishima was rushing around the edge of the boulder to try and help if he could. Too bad he was extremely out of his league. Thankfully he recognized it and could only stare with wide eyes as he watched Reno fight. He was good. It looked like one of the Chinese kung-fu movies his brother liked so much, only far more rough and tumble. Reno was amazing.

With the fight over, Reno collapsed as well, folding in on himself and crouching on the ground with his head down between his knees, arms loosely wrapped around his legs. Dropping the stun baton beside himself, Reno closed his eyes and focused on ignoring the voices in his head whispering doubt and misery. The mist Elfadunks sprayed created a fog in a person's mind, dragging them down with a loss of will and nagging despair. It wasn't easy to ignore when one was already feeling less than enthusiastic about things. He already felt miserable, so it was hardly surprising that the Elfadunk mist had him hugging himself and rocking on his heels as he just forced himself to wait out the effects. Fortunately nothing lasted long, but that didn't make it any less risky.

Reno followed right after and Makishima was calling out his name again and feeling panic grip his chest. Images of a hurt friend flitted through his head, the worry, the concern, the thought that Kinjou could have died all caused his heart to beat faster and his breathing go shallow. He tried not to outright panic as he ran up to Reno, spinning around, and dropping to his knees in front of him.
"Reno? Reno? Reno?! Can you hear me? Are you okay, sho!" He reached out and took Reno's face into his hands, forcing the red-head to look up at him. "Reno please, don't die, tell me you're okay-sho!" He couldn't lose Reno. He couldn't! If he had to carry Reno the rest of the way to the city he would. He'd drag them both across the desert so long as Reno lived.
