Pokémon Omega RWBY
Who: Ren and Nora
What: A queen and her knave on an unexpected Pokémon adventure!
When: No point in particular
Where:Some random woods in the Pokémon world Petalburg Woods in Hoenn? okay that works too
Warnings: n/a
It had started at breakfast in the very literal sense. Nora had managed to convince—or nag, beg, cajole, whatever—Ren that the team was in need of good luck and a morale boost, and that had somehow translated into pancakes. Not just cafeteria pancakes, but homemade, which meant Ren was going to make them. He had, for whatever reason, accepted and gone along with this argument, but after everything had been assembled, Ren had picked up a spatula—and suddenly tripped on nothing and vanished into midair.
After several fruitless minutes trying to locate him inside the cabinets or behind the fridge, Nora had grabbed Magnhild in preparation to start knocking things aside. As soon as her beloved hammer was in hand, that was when she saw it: a whirlpool of light, spinning in the air right where Ren had vanished. Naturally, Nora had jumped right through it.
One falling sensation later, she was in a forest with Ren catching her fall. Not that he seemed to be expecting it. She flew out of the air right behind him, momentum knocking them both over and depositing them in a heap. That was when they met the guide (maybe capitalized, The Guide?) or at least a recording of him, and then were promptly left on their own in the middle of nowhere.
The light slanting through the leaves overhead had an orange cast to it, warning them that night approached. Clambering to the top of a tree had revealed no readily identifiable landmarks so a temporary campsite became the order of the night. Even though they hadn’t even had breakfast yet. Nora’s stomach was a-rumble and that wasn’t fair.
So, while Ren assembled a campfire, Nora went roaming the local vicinity for something resembling edibles. Berries, mushrooms…maybe she could even find a tree leaking sweet sap to eat! What she found, instead, was something completely different and entirely unexpected.
So it was that Ren would hear Nora shouting at the top of her lungs, in a rising tone of great excitement that usually meant trouble: “REEEEEEEEEEEN!!”

She looks up at that passing shadow though, eyes brightening with excitement.
“Ooooo~!” she coos, throwing her hands up in delight as she then exclaims, “Dibs on a Nevermore!”
That’s Grimm, Nora, not Pokémon. Maybe we can find her a Honchkrow….
no subject
Ren is very firm, however: “We’re going to need something friendlier.” And they might as well get started, or this cache of Pokéballs Mr. Stone gave them will go to waste.
no subject
She rubs her chin, considering Pak’s drowsing face, and changes her mind.
“Got it! It’s really the Nevermore that’s got dibs on me!”
no subject
Jaune and Pyrrha must be worried by now…
Will they ever go back home?
It’s really the Nevermore that’s got dibs on…
“A Nevermore might run away from you on sight.”
no subject
“And it would be right to, too!” she exclaims, pumping a fist in front of herself. “Any Nevermore that thinks it’s gonna come at me like that has another thing coming!”
She’s not being very consistent about her angle of attack here, is she? Well, one shouldn’t be all that surprised, given that she’s grown up in a world infested with Grimm and Pokémon are a far, far newer experience.
no subject
“Since we haven’t found any around here…” Is that a good or a bad thing? “We could try looking for some bird-types, like the one Steven used to fly away from here.” What was that again? Damn, they really do need a PokéDex here.
no subject
Which leads one to wonder…. “What if we need a big flying Pokémon just to find a place where we can find big flying Pokémon??”
no subject
He looks at their current lineup and decides that they can’t possibly sprout wings and carry them off. “Or we could try catching one of the smaller ones and seeing if they’ll evolve into something bigger.”
He actually looks a bit incredulous at his own suggestion—because it means more time investment, plus, it’s weirdly crazy in its own way. Nora’s rubbing off on him help
no subject
Catching a small Pokémon just to evolve it, though…. Nora holds her chin in a very hard look of thought, but can’t come up with anything better.
“Right! Let’s get to it, then!” she exclaims, mustering enthusiasm no differently than she does the electric charges of her Semblance. She rushes towards the nearest field of tall grass, pulling out her hammer and—yeah this girl’s never gonna adjust to the distinction of attacking Pokémon with Pokémon rather than herself.

Is he the only one of them who’s figured out how combat here works? Yep. She’d been asleep while he was receiving his little cultural education back in Rustboro, after all, and the boat ride hadn’t been conducive to much conversation, it looks like.
Still, he moves quickly enough, though Magnolia’s the first to grab her by the ankle in a panicked attempt to keep her from fucking up the ecosystem.
“You might scare them off,” Ren says, by way of explanation, once he’s caught up. Well, and she might kill them off by accident too, but Nora can put two and two together for that.
no subject
THUMP. She lets Magnhild’s head drop to the ground and ‘awww’s as she leans against the handle. Sorry man, but it’s just boring letting the Pokémon have all the fun. That Geodude attacked them; it makes no sense that people shouldn’t attack Pokémon right back!
no subject
What were they supposed to do while they’re here, anyway? He relaxes and Magnolia relaxes, looking inward, opposite the shore, to the vegetation surrounding the Granite Cave. Dewford is a small town, but it is not completely bereft of natural resources, even if most of them seem to have made their way underground.
“I think…” He looks to Magnolia next, who stares upward. “I think this is their battle, not ours.” So they should see what their Pokémon want, first.
no subject
The Slakoth shuffles back to her feet then, though namely to Magnolia, yawning before giving the other Pokémon an affectionate headbutt. Pak then promptly slumps to the ground, pillowing his head upon folded arms.
Well, so much for that.
no subject
“Besides…” He looks to Pak and sees her slump to the ground without further ceremony. “There are other ways to acquire Pokémon. Ones that don’t have to involve fighting.”
no subject
Not that Nora knows about that particular option, but Ren's caught her mildly by surprise. Okay, she clearly missed something along the way (no surprise), but that's exactly one of many reasons why Ren is so good to have around. When she's done cooing at Pak giving Magnolia some cuddly sloth love, she picks the little creature up (he slumps over her arms like a giant bean bag and doesn't stir a bit) before facing Ren again.
"What do you mean?"
no subject
Like now. “You’ve already been making friends.” Friends, as in plural, as in, Pak is not the only Pokémon she’s bonded with. Ren gives Magnolia a little pat on the head for some emphasis.
no subject
“So if there’s gonna be a fight, the Pokémon have got to do it because it’s their tournament, not ours, while we….” Okay, she gets it, they’re responsible for the friendmaking side of things which means…she rolls her thoughts back to meeting Pak and Magnolia and voilà!
“…need to find another berry bush! Ooh, and get some of those little cake-y things, too.”
no subject
“What? I—no. Yes.” Technically that idea is pretty sound. Baiting and trapping Pokémon could work, but…well now it’s Ren’s turn to sort out his thoughts on that note.
no subject
“Let’s make it a picnic! We’ll just find someplace out in the woods to have a nice picnic, feed berries and cakes to any Pokémon that come looking, and we’ll make more friends!”
Really, Ren. The things you think.
no subject
“We’re going to need some supplies,” he says finally, thinking to that camp stove Mr. Stone had generously provided them—to say nothing of his…spatula. Does it still…count…if he uses it? Will their food get whisked away to another dimension if he tries frying something up with it?
He hopes the PokéMart has another spatula in stock. Stop it with the sane ideas Nora he’s starting to get the crazy ones
no subject
She reaches over, clapping a hand enthusiastically on her friend’s shoulder. “You take care of the shopping, I’ll hit the woods! …But not literally, I got that part. No hitting the Pokémon.”
no subject
And so, a quick shopping montage occurs as Ren raids the nearby PokéMart for supplies, heroically raiding the half-off bins and buying magazines for coupons, until finally—
He marches over to Nora with the groceries in tow, and a new shiny frying pan and spatula strapped to his back. Both are thankfully devoid of transdimensional properties, and soon the hotcakes are sizzling merrily over a camp stove while Magnolia’s mixing up the batter at his side. Ren looks the very picture of the content housewife.
no subject
Funny thing, though. When she said feed ‘cakes’ to any wandering Pokémon she was in fact thinking of actual Pokémon treats. Instead Ren is making pancakes—and it’s like they’re almost getting a redo of that pancake-making morning that was interrupted by Ren tumbling through an invisible portal.
Minus being safe at home. Plus their little friends Pak and Magnolia. It’s not exactly a fair tradeoff, but…it’s not all bad.
Taillow chirp from the trees overhead, Wingull cry in the distance closer to shore, and Zigzagoon rustle around in the tall grass—and other varieties of Pokémon still, observing with wary curiosity as Nora coaxes Pak up a tree with an armload of berries to try sharing with some of the little bird-types perching there.
no subject
Right now Ren figures pancakes are the quickest way to go. It’ll fill up Nora’s endless void of a tummy and bulk up their new friends too—and their new-new friends as well, if they find any. But what the hey, they’ve got time; and he’s happy to watch Nora make friends on their own. As a matter of fact, so engrossed is he by Nora’s and Pak’s antics that he fails to notice Magnolia chirp in alarm, and when Ren masterfully flips a pancake high in the air, he has to take another second to register that rather large shadow looming from behind him.
All is quiet.
The pancake doesn’t come back down.
no subject
Ren’s Aura-sensing fails him. Naturally, so does Nora’s. She has no sense at all of that feeling that they’re being watched…but really, neither of the young Hunters can really be faulted there. The creatures investigating them are just as—if not more—intelligent as they themselves.
But what Nora does do is look back to see how Ren is doing—and that’s when she gasps and promptly loses her hold. She hits the ground a little hard but barely feels it, sitting up sprawled with wide eyes and an open mouth turning into a broad grin.
Fearless and naïve, she’s ignorant to the nature of the Pokémon hovering quietly behind her friend other than it’s big and blue and levitating. That’s like flying! It’s a big, flying Pokémon! And it’s so handsome! You know, for a creature that looks vaguely like a small airship in shape.
Thus she, in turn, fails to notice what happens right behind her. The air shimmers and flickers as a smaller red version of the Pokémon she sees behind Ren rustles its feathers and drops its invisibility at her back, stretching its head up to accept a berry held out to it by the ever-sleepy-looking Pak.
