In Declan and Ghost's world, artificial intelligences were recognized as human and made their own choices in regards to everything to do with themselves. The idea of someone else treating them as lower functioning or of lesser right in some way wasn't just insulting, it was unlawful. Not that Aoba and Ren were going to be judged for anything by present company, they just weren't accustomed to hearing and acting in such a manner.
