Friends. It really wasn't a word he heard often, though he thought about it a lot. He was a friend to others where not many were friends to him. Where for most people the matter was largely cut and dry, for Declan it was a complicated dance. He never expected a return on what he gave, but to hear someone else suggest the merit of the connection, particularly having only known him to buy a drink and deliver a mean right hook, was...nice.
"I leave it up to you. I wouldn't have offered if I didn't believe I could handle the extra mouth. If the Speaker offered the room, he won't rescind the offer later, so if you change your mind, the room will still be there, I'm sure. Mm...but...it might be easier for you to stay with someone, even if it's not me, at least until you understand more about where you are and what you're doing. Again, though, I won't make your choices for you. Just know that I have the room, and it's ready for you."
The ball was back in Aoba's hands, Declan making as much effort as possible not to look like her wanted Aoba there. He wasn't desperate, by any stretch, and it wasn't a grab for company as much as he wanted to do the right thing and it wouldn't hurt to have someone actually living in the quarters. Maybe he'd actually come back once in awhile instead of avoiding the empty space...
"If you're coming with me, though, I'll take you by requisitions. We can get more blankets and pillows and I'm sure Miss Everis or Miss Levante will have clothes. I'd offer mine...but..." he trailed off with a shrug, knowing full well aoba would swim in his clothing. One of many downsides to being uncommonly large. "If you want..." he was quick to add, not wanting to come off as too insistent or pushy in any way. A lot of Declan's speaking was spent dancing around whether or not he was being overbearing - virtually impossible for how little he conversed with people, but sometimes others assumed a big body included a big ego, when in fact Declan had very little at all.
