"Oh, no, I'm not disagreeing. But there's also nothing to really do about it. It's only further complicated by the opinions normal people have of Guardians. Some people look at us like earthly deities. Some people think we're abominations. Most people are at least in awe of us to some degree, and that creates a divide. Positive or negative, those opinions make it even harder to connect," he thought back to when he and Aoba met in the bar, the way most people gave him a wide berth; and not just because of his unfairly earned reputation.

"When I think about it, though...I don't know what else there'll be when the fight is over. Most Guardians don't have fall-back plans or other jobs, you know? We don't exactly have time to focus on learning useful jobs outside of what we already do. Even me having the time I take with you is unusual. I can only do this much because I never take personal leave for anything. Thinking about it...what's a career soldier supposed to do after a war ends? In the past, soldiers had lived before they were in the military, but we're all born into it, so to speak. It's all we know."
