Just because they didn’t….

Well, there went the cuteness of the moment. But they do exist, he wanted to say, though he silenced himself in reflecting upon the fact that if this was Earth’s future, then they didn’t exist anymore.

The portals he had passed through had changed time and distance on him, but up until this sudden moment, Aoba had imagined everything nevertheless existing simultaneously somehow. He was in the future, but he could go back home as soon as he had the right portal. But to anyone else, anyone who was not ‘Chosen’…the past, and all the people in it, were forever out of reach. It was…a very heavy revelation and shift in his manner of thinking to make, so much so that Aoba was kind of glad for the distraction of what Declan asked next.

Aoba sighed softly and then was quiet for a few moments afterwards, not averting his eyes but gazing towards Declan with a look that was reluctant and not happy, but not without understanding.

“…Yeah, okay,” he managed at the end.
