palmstrike: (✽ From a feint into a slip)

Ren doesn’t even get that far. Somehow or the other he wakes up in the morning slumped on the deck with Magnolia on his lap and a blanket tossed over both of them. His hair might have even gotten a bit salty from lingering too close to the water, but hey.

They’re in Dewford before they know it. Trendy phrases about in Dewford Hall and a nice fisherman nearby lectured them on the joys of fishing—even handing them one of his old rods just to help them get started. It’s not a bad idea, after all, to train a Pokémon for traveling across the ocean—especially if they plan on reaching other nearby islands; or, if the Pokémon is trained well enough, even to far off continents.

It’s certainly a fun idea, but...

They’re standing outside Granite Cave, which, as a popular destination for rock collectors, is where Steven Stone is likely to be. It sure is dark inside though, and this humble little seaside town is lacking in a PokéMart from which to purchase a flashlight from. Torches might not be a bad idea though, since they apparently have to go through the gym if they want their Pokémon to learn a certain move.

Besides, even if they did ask Mr. Stone for Steven’s PokéNav ID, the cave might have blocked the reception if Steven’s deep enough inside. Not that Ren isn’t already fiddling with his device, anyway.

“Maybe we should just wait for him to come out,” he mutters.
